A Study Of The Toyota Production System by Shigeo Shingo

Original Title: A Study Of The Toyota Production System

This is the "green book" that started it all -- the first book in English on JIT, written from the engineer's viewpoint. When Omark Industries bought 500 copies and studied it companywide, Omark became the American pioneer in JIT. Here is Dr. Shingo's classic industrial engineering rationale for the priority of process-based over operational improvements in manufacturing. He explains the basic mechanisms of the Toyota production system, examines production as a functional network of processes and operations, and then discusses the mechanism necessary to make JIT possible in any manufacturing plant. Provides original source material on Just-ln-Time Demonstrates new ways to think about profit, inventory, waste, and productivity Explains the principles of leveling, standard work procedures, multi-machine handling, supplier relations, and much more If you are a serious student of manufacturing, you will benefit greatly from reading this primary resource on the powerful fundamentals of JIT.

The Modern Theory Of The Toyota Production System by Phillip Marksberry

Original Title: The Modern Theory Of The Toyota Production System

Numerous books have been written about Toyota's approach to workplace improvement; however, most describe Toyota's practices as case studies or stories. Designed to aid in the implementation of Lean manufacturing, The Modern Theory of the Toyota Production System: A Systems Inquiry of the World’s Most Emulated and Profitable Management System explains that your organization already has what it takes to succeed with TPS and what’s probably missing is balance. Bridging the gap between implementation and theory, this text is the first of its kind to use systems theory to study how the pieces of the Toyota Production System (TPS) work together to achieve this much needed balance. Lean practitioners will learn how to use system theory to improve overall decision making when applying Lean or Toyota-like management systems. Explaining that the glue that holds the pieces of TPS together is just as important as the pieces themselves, the book provides you with invaluable guidance in the implementation of Lean manufacturing from a management perspective. It outlines a blueprint to help you develop a clear understanding of how the pieces of TPS need to come together so you can achieve something greater than what’s possible with the individual pieces.

Lean Organization From The Tools Of The Toyota Production System To Lean Office by Andrea Chiarini

Original Title: Lean Organization From The Tools Of The Toyota Production System To Lean Office

Lean Organization for Excellence describes the right way to implement lean thinking inside both manufacturing and service industries. After explaining the origins of the concept and discussing 'wastes' and value added, the book aims to set out a precise path of action. To this end, the so-called Hoshin Kanri method of defining business objectives and targets is explained, and a Value Stream Mapping tool that serves to identify all wastes is described. Subsequent chapters cover each of the TPS (Toyota Production System) tools, from 5S to SMED, and special attention is devoted to the Ducati case study, in which tools such as 5S and Kanban are applied. Lean metrics and the innovative Value Stream Accounting are discussed, and the closing chapter focuses on Lean Office for the service industry. Each chapter includes illustrations and tables relating to practical cases concerning the subject under consideration, based on real consultancy experiences.

A Study On The Scor Model For Assessing Risks In A Supply Chain by Murali Mg

Original Title: A Study On The Scor Model For Assessing Risks In A Supply Chain

Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 64, University of Lincoln (PG Business School), course: MSc in Supply Chain and Logistics Management, language: English, abstract: This paper discusses the importance of the SCOR model in assessing risks within the supply chains and makes an attempt to determine how the model applies its scope in addressing risks from internal employees. The application of the SCOR model is only limited to study and to analyze the concepts of supply chain vulnerability and the stakeholder’s interests and doesn’t extend beyond that. The model is applied to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Corporation, by configuring its existing supply chain and identifying the potential internal risks. Based on the analysis, recommendation and suggestions are submitted for a variant of attributes to the SCOR model. In a complex dynamic business environment, supply chains have become the most integral part of the organization. They now, are the tools of reducing costs and adding value (additional) to a product or service. Henceforth, they can be regarded as the crucial part of an organization. However, the quest of organizations and globalization with the aim of constructing an effective means of supply and supply chain has increased the complexity of the supply chain which can often reduce the knowledge and understanding the of the exposure to risk. The risks can arrive from anywhere or from any source. For instance, imagine the port and the harbor industry which was wrecked by Tsunami which erupted in Indian Ocean 2004. This was an unanticipated risk which can be categorized as natural risk (natural disaster). Risks from suppliers can be untimely delivery, increased in costs than agreed or labor strikes and external risks can change government economic policies (changing tax rates and subsidies etc.).While few risks can be anticipated, whilst majority of risks cannot be forecasted (decease of factory worker due to unhealthy conditions or heart stroke), this demands the ongoing need for an effective risk management frame work for assessing risks in the supply chain management. The incorporation of the Supply chain operations model for assessing and evaluating risks have benefitted many supply chains and organizations. Yet, there are certain limitations of the model that fails to address risks in the supply chain. The SCOR model of assessing risks becomes more complex when it’s applied to complex supply chains. The five attributes on which the SCOR model is built has to be tested to determine if there is a need for any other variants or additional attributes that has to be incorporated into the model.

Original Title: Production Leveling In The Scope Of Bosch Production System

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Esslingen, language: English, abstract: Implementing Heijunka usually includes the implementation of production leveling and the implementation of a kanban pull system. This process, in the scope of the Bosch Production System, will be part of the following thesis. After a short introduction of the Robert Bosch GmbH and particularly of Bosch in China in chapter two, a theoretical part will follow in chapter three. In this paragraph the author of this thesis wants to introduce some basic elements and core principles about the Toyota- and the Bosch Production System. Moreover, some production control methods will be explained. Chapter four, the practical and main part of this thesis, is devoted to the whole Heijunka implementation process in the respective plant of Bosch, Wujin plant. At the beginning, the current state of the value stream and the target state of the value stream are compared with each other. The next step will cover the preparations and finally the selection of a suitable value stream. The supermarket calculation and future steps are also included in chapter four. However, chapter four also contains some theoretical explanations to provide a bigger picture and to link theory to the practical implementation. Finally, the author will move to the last chapter of this thesis, which shall deal with a short review of this project.
