Transcribed by Mr. Cox, the 1850 U.S. slave census for Georgia is important for two reasons. First, some of the slave owners appearing here do not appear in the 1850 U.S. census of population for Georgia and are thus "restored" to the population of 1850. Second, and of considerable interest to historians, the transcription shows that less than 10 percent of the Georgia white population owned slaves in 1850. In fact, by far the largest number of slave owners were concentrated in Glynn County, a coastal county known for its rice production. The slave owners' census is arranged in alphabetical order according to the surname of the slave owner and gives his/her full name, number of slaves owned, and the county of residence. It is one of the great disappointments of the ante bellum U.S. population census that the slaves themselves are not identified by name; rather, merely as property owned. Nevertheless, now that Mr. Cox has made the names of these Georgia slave owners with their aggregations of slaves more widely available, it may be just possible that more persons with slave ancestors will be able to trace them via other records (property records, for example) pertaining to the 37,000 slave owners enumerated in this new volume.

The Sixth Man The Triple Threat 2 by John Feinstein

Original Title: The Sixth Man The Triple Threat 2

New York Times bestselling author John Feinstein delivers a hard-hitting account of prejudice and perseverance on the basketball court. It’s basketball season. And for once, triple threat Alex Myers is not the one in the spotlight. There’s a new new guy in town, and Max Bellotti promises to turn the Lions’ losing streak around and lead the team to a conference title. Alex is psyched, but some of the older guys on the team resent being benched in favor of an upstart freshman. Team morale is rocky at best. And when Max comes out as gay, not everyone takes the news in stride. Snide comments and cold shoulders escalate into heated protests and an out-and-out war with the school board. While controversy swirls around them, the Lions have to decide: Will personal issues sink their season, or can they find a way to stand together as a team? John Feinstein has been praised as “the best writer of sports books in America today” (The Boston Globe). This second installment in his Triple Threat series delivers action and intensity, and a look beyond the headlines of a hot-button topic in sports today.

Slim Birdy Lite As A Feather by Kristy Zenk

Original Title: Slim Birdy Lite As A Feather

Ebook, Lite as a Feather by former fatty - Kristy Zenk - is a refreshingly different approach to weight loss; it’s not a get thin quick scheme. Funny, engaging, entertaining; a true story capturing the heartache many women go through with their weight and with a happy ever after ending. It’s part Bridget Jones Diary, part healthy eating without the eye-rolling lectures, part rollicking funny stories and a really unique perspective from the trenches. It just may explain why weight loss has eluded so many for so long. Author Kristy Zenk declared, “most of the standard recommended programs/diets just didn’t work for me. I had to find my own way.” Not that keen on the pain of boot camp, gyms or strenuous exercise of any kind, Lite as a Feather takes readers through ‘out of the box’ concepts and the steps taken to finally find what did work for Kristy from the exercise and eating perspective. It also features food suggestions, dishes and a handful of favourite dessert recipes demonstrating that the path to weight loss can still be yummy! Brilliant photography by award winning photographer Adrian Alford including shots taken in Paris, Cook Islands, Italy, New Zealand and Scotland. Visually stunning and just a delight to read, this could potentially be the last weight loss advice you will ever need. So what’s her secret to weight loss? Lite as a Feather will tell all. Here’s what some readers had to say: “This is the first book on weight loss where I related to 95% of it. It was like she was writing about my relationship with food. I loved it!” - Sarah C. “Loved it! Funny, entertaining, real and inspirational.” – Linda Z. “Lost 2 kgs (4 lbs) already in about 2 weeks and haven’t felt hungry at all.” – Kylie J. It’s great! There were so many parts I could relate to – totally helped me understand my behaviour around food.” – Cindy M. “Very funny, I loved the part about all the types of exercise she tried and hated. Related to the crazy journey she went through to find peace with her body and food – totally true for me too.” - Katie G. “The story around coffee was exactly how I experienced it too. Uncanny!” - Adrian A. “I love the way she writes - funny, funny, funny! I so fully related to what she was saying and it felt like we were total twins in some areas it was scary. A great way to tackle what is a difficult topic for many.” - Jodie S. “I couldn’t stop reading it. I loved all the concepts and couldn’t wait to see what was next.” – Rita A. “OMG! Have just finished the book and it is amazing! Everything I needed to hear. The struggles Kristy went through are exactly what I have been through all my life and am still battling. It is so inspirational; I had tears in my eyes in some sections.” - Pamela M
