On The Fence by Kasie West

Original Title: On The Fence

She's a tomboy. He's the boy next door. With three older brothers, Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, has always been more comfortable calling the shots on a basketball court than flirting with the opposite sex. So when her police officer dad demands she get a summer job to pay for the latest in a long line of speeding tickets, she's more than a little surprised to find herself working at a chichi boutique and going out with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pickup game. Charlie seeks late-night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with her neighbor and honorary fourth brother, Braden, sitting back-to-back against the fence that separates them. Braden may know her better than anyone. But there's a secret Charlie's keeping that even he hasn't figured out—she's fallen for him. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high. On the Fence is a sweet and satisfying read about finding yourself and finding love where you least expect it.

Hollyhocks On The Fence by Caryn Welles

Original Title: Hollyhocks On The Fence

The overpowering scent of roses mingled with an indistinguishable musty smell set the stage for my Grandmother Gus's funeral. A white satin pillow cushioned my grandmother's head as she lay quietly in a mahogany casket fit for a queen. Shadows played across her face, making it appear as though her eyelashes fluttered occasionally, and a smile seemed to tug at her tightly pursed lips as though she was amused at the activities surrounding her. Even in death, Grandmother Gus was intimidating to the grandchildren she had terrorized for years. Reunited with the family members who had made childhood terrible, Caryn, along with Patrick and Michael, could still feel the evil from those days lurking, causing Caryn's memories to surface and collide with the present. Aunt Maxine's drunken rampages, Aunt Stella's flamboyant sexuality, and her father's harsh and excessive punishments are finally unlocked from the heart that held them tight for years in fear of the possible consequences such revelations could bring. But Caryn also remembers the light moments-ice-skating on the lake, watching her cousin prepare for solos, riding bicycles until dark with her Maywood friends-that helped her and her brothers relieve the pain and overcome the dark moments. And she remembers her mother, who despite the circumstances did all she could to instill Christian values in the children more familiar with dark than light. Travel with Caryn back to the place with the Hollyhocks on the Fence as she finds strength in overcoming evil.

Original Title: On The Fence

The book shows the life of a young family in a new, struggling country. It is an insight into a different culture, without prejudice, as it has been lived day by day. It also lets you take part in the advancing of living standard of middleclass families in Asia. You learn that there are other ways of life that can lead you to success and happiness. Some chapters seem to be quite amusing, now that they are long behind. I actually wrote these chapters for my family, to tell them about the Pakistan they do not know. My daughter felt, this had a wider interest for other people, who wanted to know about the country and its day to day problems in a different way from the propaganda available on TV. The story is very personal, and I can not guarantee for the things I wrote about politics for instance; this reflects my personal opinion.

2 of 6 of An Apple Trail Novella Series Six years apart and my, my, things have changed. Specifically, his wider shoulders and tighter-fitting jeans. Shellie Chambers is supposed to be on a quick, relaxing break, visiting her lifelong best friend, Riley Hamilton. Seeing his dimpled smile all over again has her thinking their friends-only relationship needs to add a lovers option in this small town. Flings, one night stands, and lovers are a thing of Riley's past. He'd chased women, took up drinking--and possibly more he couldn't remember--until smacking rock-bottom. He managed to climb out of that hellhole and had no desire to go back. He has responsibilities now and a sensible head on his shoulders. Then Shellie turns up. She's saying and doing all the right things while looking just right, too. She leaves him torn: should he have her legs around his waist during her visit, or do right by himself and keep her at arm's length?
